Hope Town boasts one of the legendary visual landmarks of the Bahamas, the red and white striped lighthouse that was built to mark Elbow Reef in the 1860s. A kerosene light and a wind-up brass mechanism are still in service to beam light some 20 miles across the waves every 15 seconds. A dink landing exists near the lighthouse, perfect for boaters wishing to explore. Visitors can climb up a spiral staircase to get one of the best views around.
