Stan Hywet, Old English for “stone quarry,” will give you a glimpse at Akron’s rubbery history. This Akron museum was built back in 1915 to serve as the residence of F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Though the stone quarry is the most unique part of the property, the house is welcomed such famous people as Helen Keller, Presidents Taft and Harding, and the Von Trapp family. Luscious gardens open to the public make it easy to see why visitors loved staying at the Stan Hywet house so much. Admissions close 1.5 hours before the grounds.
