Details: 714 N Portage Path, Akron, OH 44303-1399 · 330-836-5533 Contrary to popular belief, this impressive historic house museum did not get its name from a person or family. Stan Hywet (pronounced Hee-wit), means "Stone Quarry" in Olde English. At one time, this estate contained a sandstone quarry (which is now the site of the naturalistic lagoons). In 1912, F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and his family began construction of the Manor House, which hosted such guests as President Taft, Helen Keller and the Von Trapp family. Today the estate is comprised of 70 remaining acres of beautifully landscaped grounds that harmoniously combine structural design with natural surroundings. One of the ground's most popular attractions is the peaceful walled English Garden that was created by renowned landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman. Hours:
