ALEXANDRIA. Birchmere is an interesting mix between a bar and a concert hall. You will always find great live music, often by top names like Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Nanci Griffith. You have your choice of activities and sections – head for the pool hall, their own famous brewery, or the full-service bar. ALEXANDRIA. This two-story establishment boasts a lively atmosphere, authentic Latin American cuisine, and a wide selection of drinks. While you're there, choose a favorite drink, and accompany it with scallops and squid mixed with red onions and lime juice, a steaming bowl of fish soup, or even a grilled steak. After 10pm, salsa dancers take over the restaurant's main floor, pushing back tables and dancing. The upscale decor features wooden floors, large mirrors, and yellow walls. Smart casual dress. ALEXANDRIA. Fish Market, located in an historic building that once housed ship's cargo from around the world, is an exceptional seafood restaurant and bar. Inside, you'll find low ceilings, wooden floors and paneling, and blue-and-red-checked tablecloths. The menu includes broiled or fried seafood platters, salads, pastas, and sandwiches. Regulars come frequently for live entertainment and to gather around the bar and swap stories and political tales. Start off with a dinner of ribs or barbecue, and then have a drink or two while perusing the décor, which boasts neon lights, photos, swirling colors, ceiling-hung airplanes, and more. After that, take in some live music (featured many nights), which showcases local talents. ALEXANDRIA. You receive a hearty Irish welcome as soon as you walk into this popular pub, where owner Pat Troy loves entertaining his guests with a song. Belly up to the bar and lose yourself in a cold pint of stout while you listen to the live Irish music that plays every night.
