About Alpharetta

First home to traders who built the outpost New Prospect Camp Ground, Alpharetta was a stop along the Cherokee Trail between the mountains of North Georgia and the Chattahoochee River. The first colonists built a small tent community and erected a wooden schoolhouse at the turn of the 19th century. The land around New Prospect was ideal for farming and raising cotton.
