7. Van Gogh Museum

Regardless of the fact that I am generally more drawn to works by Renoir and Rembrandt, this museum was my number one must see choice for my trip to Amsterdam. Upon visiting the museum for an entire day, I found myself moved to tears many times. The pieces displayed, the manner in which they were shown, the atmosphere of reverence for the work there were overwhelming. I did not expect to see works by Rodin or Pissaro or Monet, but I stood in awe of them all. I learned a great deal about the kind of man Van Gogh was as well as viewing his talent. What an amazing delight this visit turned out to be. I highly recommend setting aside a full day to contemplate the artwork, the technique involved, and the history of the Van Goghs.
