5. Grachtenfestival

The Buzz -- Amsterdam's beauty, coupled with a repertoire of classical music, distinguishes this outdoor festival. In late summer, when the weather is mild and the days sunny, the city turns out to bask along the canals and lounge in the open air while taking in the delicate strains and rich tones of some of history's most refined music. More than 160 performances are scheduled at various venues along the city's major canals as well as the IJ waterfront. Highlights include the spectacular open-air concerts on the Prinsengracht.
