OLD CENTER / RED LIGHT DISTRICT.
Authentic Indonesian cuisine, with its sublime flavors and exotic quality, has folks flocking to this popular place. The restaurant's modern interior invites patrons to ease back and enjoy a meal of savory fare, served by a staff of mostly students who don't mind tutoring novice diners. A la carte dishes can be had, as can satays, but the primary draw is the 'rijsttafel,' a dozen-plus dishes featuring vegetables, seafood and meats, all accompanied by rice or noodles. Several of these options are available and are best enjoyed with a group. Tip: Dine between 4:30-6:45pm, and you can get a complete Indonesian meal served in a traditional mangkok (bowl) for just €9.25.

service sucked!
food was ok - manager and waitress were rude. we came with a party of six very hungry, tired people on a slowish wednesday evening. (by the time we left the place was totally empty - this place might not last long...) the only table we were offered was right next to the kitchen, in a walk-way. we asked to wait for a nearby table for six with a family paying the bill. we were told that table was reserved, the table by the kitchen was the only choice. desperate, we agreed. after sitting empty for 40 minutes, they finally seated a party at that table. they had to walk right past an empty table for three to seat this party of three at the table for six we requested. kinda rubbed me wrong...
then waitress forgot part of the order, had to be reminded several times... food gets cold while waiting... etc....
also - they won't provide tap water. at all. i'm not picky about the water i drink - clean tap water is fine for me. and i'd rather not spend 1.5 euros PER GLASS for their "purified" drinking water. at a restaurant that serves potentially spicy food, this seems like a blatant rip-off.
i'm sure there are many far less pretentious, less expensive rijsttafel restaurants in Amsterdam - keep looking...
