Anchorage is an outdoorsman's dream. The nation's third largest state park falls within the boundaries of the state's largest city, affording many opportunities for hiking, fishing, biking and exploring. A municipally owned ski area is a popular spot in the winter months, offering both alpine and Nordic skiing. Anchorage is home to many tour companies specializing in nature viewing. Whale watch aboard a modern, comfortably appointed vessel or board a floatplane and "flightsee" on the outskirts of the city where bear and moose are common sights.
