Volunteering at the Alaska Botanical Garden EAST ANCHORAGE. Located on 110 idyllic acres within Anchorage is the Alaska Botanical Garden. Over 900 species of perennials and 150 native plants grow amid birch and spruce woodlands. A mile-long nature walk leads to the banks of Campbell Creek where, during the summer spawn, you can watch Chinook salmon run. An alpine rock garden, an herb garden, and a wildflower walk are other park features. Guided tours are available, and visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch.
