8. Orso

DOWNTOWN.   Orso resembles a giant woodland lodge, complete with wood posts, fireplaces, and low lighting. Contrary to expectations, the food is pure Old World Italian. Start with marinated olives or mussels in lemon sauce. Pastas, freshly made every day, are served family style - dig into wild mushroom ravioli or spaghetti with oven roasted garlic, lemon herb butter, and giant meatballs. There are plenty of seafood and meat options, as well, such as osso bucco made with lamb rather than the traditional veal and served with onions, tomatoes, and kalamata olives on polenta. Voted Anchorage's favorite dessert, the molten chocolate cake is too good to pass up.   (© 10Best)
