Anchorage is an outdoorsman's dream. The nation's third largest state park falls within the boundaries of the state's largest city, affording many opportunities for hiking, fishing, biking and exploring. A municipally owned ski area is a popular spot in the winter months, offering both alpine and Nordic skiing. Anchorage is home to many tour companies specializing in nature viewing. Whale watch aboard a modern, comfortably appointed vessel or board a floatplane and "flightsee" on the outskirts of the city where bear and moose are common sights. On rainy days visit one of Anchorage's excellent museums–Native culture, local ecology and Gold Rush history are just a few of the interesting subjects covered.
