DOWNTOWN. Alaskans love a big hearty breakfast, so it isn't a surprise that this all-day breakfast joint is popular. The house special is sourdough pancakes made with starter supplied by a miner in 1939. Another favorite is the Alaska sampler composed of reindeer sausage, smoked halibut, and lox dip. Homemade chicken soup with matzo balls, hearty reindeer stew, and a wide selection of traditional sandwiches round out the menu. Beer and wine are available to complement your meal. Casual to smart-casual attire. Reservations not accepted, but takeout orders can be placed in advances.

DOWNTOWN. Sacks' weekend brunch might be the best in the city. Traditional eggs benedict is available, but be adventurous and try the migas, a Mexican scrambled egg concoction. Soups and pastas are available for those who prefer a more "lunchy" brunch. Be sure to sample the wicked Bloody Marys. Smart-casual attire. Reservations suggested.

DOWNTOWN. Snow City became Anchorage's "favorite new restaurant" when it opened in 1998. They continue to please with creative breakfast dishes—served until 5pm—such as a tofu scramble or eggs benedict. The homemade granola and salmon cakes are also worth a taste. Soup is made fresh daily and makes a wonderful lunchtime accompaniment to the garden pita or chicken wrap sandwich. Casual attire. Beer and wine only.
