GROTE MARKT.   Antwerp's oldest public building is the Butcher's Hall, whose layered red-brick and stone construction recalls the marbled appearance of a piece of meat. Originally, the guild hall was the city's only sanctioned site for meat sales, and it included a chapel, banquet hall, kitchen and meeting room. Today, the building houses a museum showcasing archaeological finds and Antwerp's two most historically important crafts – the manufacture of musical instruments and art cabinets.   (© 10Best)
