OLD CITY. This facility was founded in 1912 to protect documents created by, and associated with, Hendrik Conscience, an influential Old Flemish writer. However the museum's emphasis soon shifted to protecting documents that chart all of Flanders' literary history. (Through the years, Flemish music and history have been added to the roster.) Photos, fragments of old films, out-of-print publications and re-creations of authors' workrooms are among the items preserved.
