9. Sint-Jacobskerk

CITY CENTER.   This lavish Gothic church – adorned with marble and great art – boasts seven chapels, including the Rubens Chapel where the great master rests. His tomb lies behind the church's main altar (there are 23 total) and beneath the burial painting that he executed late in life: "Our Lady Surrounded by Saints." Close observers will note that Rubens portrayed himself as the St. George character; his two wives served as the models for Martha and Mary.   (© 10Best)
