About Antwerp Restaurants
Restaurants in Antwerp know how to leverage their picturesque surroundings to good effect. Many of the city's most popular spots are located in quaint old buildings in the historic Latin Quarter. You can dine "in de Schaduw van de Kathedral" (in the shadow of the cathedral) or snack in the medieval basement of Rooden Hoed, Antwerp's oldest restaurant. T'Fornuis, t'Zolderke and De Foyer are also known for their ambiance as much as for their excellent meals. La Perouse, located on a boat, is a perfect match for Antwerp's impressive maritime pedigree, and De Peerdestal (the horse stable) is renowned for a Flemish specialty: horsemeat. More typical Flemish food is also an Antwerp favorite, and locals clamor for hearty chicken or fish stews, fresh North Sea mussels or thick-cut steaks, often topped with a traditional French sauce. -- Kelly Boland, Contributing Writer
