LATIN QUARTER.   Although not one of the famed "Antwerp Six," Heylen also studied fashion at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the 1980s. Her first collection debuted in 2000, and her styles depart from the monochromatic minimalism of many of her contemporaries. Pieces tend to be jewel-toned and edged with lace or other embellishments. Heylen often designs her own fabrics and sometimes screen-prints her personal mantra, "Liberty is a never-ending love-story," on them. Once a week, Heylen works the registers at her namesake shop, so you might get to meet the designer herself when you're there.   (© 10Best)
