APPLETON.   While Joseph McCarthy may be Appleton's most infamous native son, he certainly was not its most fascinating. That honor belongs to Harry Houdini (AKA Ehrich Weiss), whose family moved here from Hungary around 1878. The Houdini Walking Tour charts numerous locations downtown, from his supposed "birthplace" to the site of his first professional performance to the first lock he ever picked. The tour generally takes between one to two hours to complete.
