7. Thousand Islands Environmental Center

KAUKAUNA.   Hikers and nature lovers, especially, enjoy this 300-acre nature refuge on the Fox River. Area trails lead over a wide sampling of terrains, from rocky river banks and marsh areas to dense woodlands. Among the permanent residents you may spot during an afternoon are bald eagles, coots, ducks, whitetail deer, and woodchucks. During the winter season, Thousand Islands is open to snow-shoers and cross-country skiers; meanwhile, fishing and canoeing are among the warm weather opportunities available.   (© 10Best)
