DOWNTOWN. This quirky corner eatery and watering hole is one of downtown's favorite gathering spots, thanks in part to a rustic bar area decorated with trophy animals, hubcaps, and Packers' memorabilia. The main dining area downstairs recollects New Orleans with high arches and French Quarter-style architecture. Upstairs, the cozy attic-library showcases the owner's book collection – "He has thousands of them," joke the staff. The menu features a veritable "who's who" of American pub favorites, from classic double-cheese burgers and tavern-battered cod and mushroom-stuffed tenderloins.

APPLETON. Perhaps the Paper Valley's most well-known restaurant, Lombardi's is the place to go if you want to make a good impression on your dinner companion. Named in honor of Green Bay's great head coach, the restaurant is decorated with Packers' memorabilia, including a replica of the Lombardi Trophy and various items from the legend's own collection. More than just atmosphere, Lombardi's features a menu with award-winning USDA prime steaks, and cuts range from 16-oz. filets to a 30-oz. porterhouse. A word to the wise: go for the fried onion strings as your side, a choice you'll not regret.

APPLETON. Located halfway between the mall area and downtown, this friendly Italian restaurant is developing quite a name for itself. Aside from hot dishes like calzones, specialty pizzas, pastas, and sandwiches, Stuc's also features mouthwatering artisan breads. The main dining area – with concrete floors, unstained wooden rafters, and exposed ducts – sports an unfinished, urban look. When taking your order, servers ask for, and use, your first name while you're in the restaurant. How's that for a personal touch?
