Because it is located on a hill, locals and tourists alike can see the cathedral's tall, twin spires from as far as Navan Fort. St. Patrick's Cathedral also offers a spectacular view of the city from its front steps. The site was constructed from 1840 to 1904, when the cathedral was consecrated. One of the reasons it took so long was because work had to stop during the Great Famine. The interior has exquisite artwork depicting some of the most revered saints in Ireland, including mosaics of St. Patrick and St. Bridget. An added treat is the cathedral's original grand organ, which is still fully operational.
