Best White Tablecloth Dinner
Locals are buzzing about new Noble Fare on Jefferson Avenue (http://www.noblefare.com/). This intimate 40-seat dining room features the passion of restaurateurs Pat and Jenny McNamara tinged with a bit of playfulness. The couple lives upstairs to better produce the best local foods using time-honored French techniques. Tuck into an order of Duck-Duck-Goose, which features a medley of duck breast, duck confit, foie gras, and gooseberry vinaigrette.
Best place for Colorful Tunes
You may know that Savannah has the best St. Patrick celebration amid a riot of springtime blossoms, but did you know they've added one of the best music fests, too? The two-week Savannah Music Festival in late March entertains with more than 100 concerts, ranging from gospel to country, chorale to Celtic, chamber to zydeco in 22 different venues around town.
Best Shopping District
Just 5 years ago, Broughton Street had more unoccupied crumbling storefronts than viable businesses. Today, Savannah's main downtown thoroughfare packs in boutiques amid SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) classrooms and galleries. It's a bustling place. Don't miss our faves: Paris Market & Brocante (a French-inspired bazaar of antiques, architectural fragments, and Fauchon chocolates); DC2 Design (home furnishings and accessories with a West Coast bent); and Zia Boutique (jewelry, art, and designer handbags from around the world).
Best Gift Gallery
SCAD has changed the vibe in this venerable moss-draped town more than anything else. The college's students, professors, and alumni infuse the city with an edgy artistic flare. Visit Shop SCAD on Bull Street to see and purchase their works. You'll find handmade cards, jewelry, paintings, photographs, fabric sculptures, and illustrations of the city. And you may get lucky—the art you buy now could one day be valued like a Warhol or Stieglitz.
