NORTHWEST COAST.   Cunucu means "country" in Papiamento, and that is where this restaurant is situated: in an old Aruban home with thick plaster walls and tile floors. Have a pre-dinner cocktail on the patio out front then move indoors to savor traditional fish soup, fried squid and fresh broiled swordfish. Funchi or pan bati, both island favorites made with cornmeal, accompany most meals. Smart-casual attire. Reservations accepted.   (© 10Best)

This little place is as historic as it is charming. Old Cunucu house means "old farm house". It is over 150 years old. The night I went there were only my wife and I and another large group. I tried their Goat which I heard from a local taxi driver was some of the best local food. It was stewed and let me say this meet was soo tender and had some of the best flavor of any meat I have ever tasted (and I don't like stewed food usually). You have to work for you meat as it is served on the bone kind of if you were going to eat chicken wings. My wife had some creamy pumpkin soup which was very good as was her grooper, which was not overcooked was excellent. Everything we ate was prepaired fresh and was just right. The help was friendly and personable and the owners was as nice as they come. Their is local art hanging on the wall which you can buy although no prices are listed on them. The art is made my two local women which use all natural products from right their on the island to make their art. Come see for your self this is the best local food on the island.
