6. La Fondue d'Aruba

GREATER ORANJESTAD.   Fun for a couple or a group, La Fondue offers a number of choices so don't think you'll eat some melted cheese or chocolate-dipped strawberries and go home hungry. You can opt for just one or two courses, but the best deal is on the four-course meal. To start, choose from four cheese fondues (with bread, vegetables and apples for dipping): cheddar, traditional Swiss, three cheese and Mexican. Refresh with a house or Caesar salad. Main course fondue choices are astounding: regular, French or Caribbean style bouillon or oil for frying, with dippers including shrimp, steak, scallops, lamb, duck, lobster, chicken, pork tenderloin, several fishes and a multitude of vegetables. Dessert fondues are all chocolate, but you can make up your own combination such as almond-Baileys or walnut-Crème de menthe. La Fondue is a cute, smaller place in town with fantastic fondue, and is a MUST for anyone who likes or wants to try fondue. We got the tre frommage (provolone, blue cheese another cheese and garlic, butter and white wine), oil for our entrée of beef, salmon and chicken, and a white and milk chocolate fondue for dessert. All were wonderful. Kudos to the staff here, who were ultra accomodating when we arrived late for our dinner reservations, then let them know that we had tickets for a show. They helped us order the right meal and got us through three excellent courses of fondue in time to make the show. Great wine, interesting local art on the walls.
