The Buzz -- Asheville Art Sake, the newest gallery in the city’s historic Montford district, will host an opening featuring recent paintings by Cecil Bothwell. Titled “River, Take Me” the exhibit includes scenes from the French Broad and Pigeon Rivers, Big Creek, Reed Creek and Beaver Lake. Bothwell works principally in oil and acrylic and has focussed his recent efforts on representational landscape painting. The event is free and open to the public. Better known for his investigative reporting and environmental writing, Bothwell has five books in print including a critically acclaimed biography of Billy Graham, The Prince of War, and the recently released Garden My Heart: Organic Strategies for Backyard Sustainability (Brave Ulysses Books, 2008). His next project, Pure Bunkum: Reporting on the life and crimes of Buncombe County Sheriff Bobby Medford, is due out in November. Asheville Art Sake’s collection includes watercolors and acrylics by Alex Cury and oil paintings by Gwen Freeman as well as works by Vadim Bora and Annie Cicale.
