Every night, performers delight crowds with rock, acoustic, bluegrass, piano, jazz, pop, and more, and there's never a cover to enjoy the bounty. DOWNTOWN. This first-rate live music venue – widely regarded as one of the best in the Southeast – hosts a wide range of acts week to week, from regional faves like Acoustic Syndicate to national acts like Ben Harper, Johnny Winter and the Smashing Pumpkins. The Peel has a spacious floor area, a long bar that extends along the stage-right wall, and a high ceiling that's conducive to great sound.

This popular concert hall hosts bluegrass, jazz, and blues performances and offers contra dancing on Monday nights. Standing room for 600 surrounds the stage, and wine and beer are available at the bar. Should you want to grab a bite to eat before the show, Two Cousins Kitchen, an onsite restaurant offers inexpensive Cajun fare.

DOWNTOWN. Big screen TVs, numerous imported brews, and savory eats draw crowds to this downtown sports bar, and on Sundays, fans pack the house for full NFL coverage. Pool tables, air hockey and video games add to the fun. The kitchen's offerings – quesadillas, burgers, fish and chips – provide a flavorful twist on pub grub. Try the Japanese Kobe burger, accented with three-onion aioli, red onion, smoked gouda, bleu cheese and bacon. In addition to beer, the bar concocts a fun variety of martinis.

DOWNTOWN. Inspired by the 1960s film "Hairspray," this gay bar features dancing, DJs, live bands and karaoke. The Sassy SINsations, a cabaret show starring female impersonators highlights the entertainment. Pool tables, air hockey and video games keep guests stirring. Daily drink specials feature $3-5 cocktails $1-3 beers.

DOWNTOWN. Classy, sophisticated Tressa's is ideal when you want to relax to fantastic live jazz and indulge in premium spirits, cocktails, and cigars. The hip little club makes a perfect destination for gathering with friends or meeting new people, and the second-floor lounge offers non-smoking comfort and a mood-setting fireplace as well. The array of music is invariably crowd-pleasing, and it begins at 9pm weekdays, 10pm weekends. A menu of light fare and an oxygen bar also add to the mix.

DOWNTOWN. Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria is appropriately named for the things they do best: beer and pizza. But this is better than just beer and pizza. Barley's offers an enormous variety of specialty beers on tap and by the bottle, and their pizza is truly some of the best anywhere. Other menu items are good, but the pizza is the real reason to dine here. Live bluegrass, folk or jazz bands perform several nights a week, and an upstairs room offers pool tables and darts, available by the hour.

DOWNTOWN. Housed in an attractive stone building, this fun pub provides solace to a late night clientele. With 40 beers on tap and classic Irish fare from the kitchen, it's tough to find cause for complaint. Accented in wood tones, the interior offers a comfortable bar and dining area and an outdoor patio offers additional seating. Friendly, reliable service.

DOWNTOWN. Colorful, exotic decor sets the tone for this fun tapas bar and restaurant, which features a lounge with a curved, stone-topped bar and cozy floor pillows. From traditional, seafood, and vegetarian paellas to pan-fried trout and almond- and herb-crusted rack of lamb, the kitchen's Spanish- and North African-influenced fare receives rave reviews. A tempting selection of wines and over ten varieties of martinis vie for your palate – tough but very rewarding choices, to be sure.

The reasonably priced, traditional American menu includes pastas, burgers, steaks and seafood. Some say the atmosphere in the dining room alone is the reason to come here. The room boasts dark wood walls and features deep, red velvet booths.
