EDITOR REVIEW: Chimney Rock Park has as its centerpiece a monolithic, jutting rock that rises 315 feet above the ground and affords astounding views of the surrounding terrain. Climb it (or take the elevator up) and then experience the rest of the beauty and breadth of the park and its waterfalls. A network of trails invites exploration, and you can look out over the landscape at sites like Inspiration Point and Peregrine's Rest. Located 35 to 40 minutes outside of Asheville. Located 25 miles Southeast of Asheville, the exhilarating program at Chimney Rock Park is harnessing up families by the droves to scale Vista Rock. No experience is necessary. You can sign up for a 15 minute climb called the Taster. If rock climbing isn't your thing, you can still be active at Chimney Rock Park. There are several nature trails that weave through the 1,000 acres. Or skip the elevator and climb the 400 steps to the top of Chimney Rock for a look at Lake Lure.
