KOLONAKI.   The summit of Athens' tallest hill is accessible by cable car or on foot. A small, beautiful church at the top provides sightseeing opportunities and great views. If you're walking up, rest and refresh at the halfway point, where a café boasts an eye-level view of the Acropolis. A restaurant at the top serves visitors who take the easy way up. The "Hill of the Wolves," as the name translates, is the best place in Athens to see both sunset and moonrise.   (© 10Best)

We were in Athens for our honeymoon in 2002 and took the funicular to the top of Mt. Lykavitos and watched the sunset from the chapel area, where a wedding was in progress, then ate outdoors at the cafe (not the more exclusive restuarant). The view was beautiful, the food delicious and the atmosphere was unforgettably beautiful. The view of the Acropolis that evening was the best I can imagine in Athens. Don't miss it. We walked down the hill and back to our hotel after dinner.
