About Athens Restaurants
Dining in Athens is a treat, especially for adventurous eaters. Cozy, family-owned bistros are hidden around every corner, and most serve fresh, innovative meals and simple, delicious house wines. Athenians dine late many spots open at 8pm and serve past midnight. Consequently, most establishments don't open before noon, so breakfast fans should plan ahead pick up nuts and dried fruit at the market, or try one of the cafeterias dotting the city's various neighborhoods. In August, Athenians take vacation, and many restaurants are closed, so be sure to call before setting out for the evening. Also, be prepared with cash since many restaurants do not accept credit cards. -- Kelly Boland, Contributing Writer
