PLAKA. It's easy to see how this spot – popular since the 1930s – got its name. "Platanos" means "plane tree" in Greek, and outdoor tables are shaded by a giant specimen. Inside, walls are decorated with paintings and old photographs, but don't let that distract you from the superb, home-cooked food. Start with crisp green beans marinated in olive oil, and for a main course, be like the locals and order artichokes or lamb with spinach. The house wine – a retsina – is delicious and affordable. Casual to smart-casual attire. Reservations accepted.
