Atlanta Attractions & Activities

Although it bustles with workweek energy, Atlanta has no fears about slowing down and showing off its myriad attractions and perennially fair weather. Toss out an interest, and it's certain that the city will throw back an apt activity. Although Atlanta's material past suffered a setback with General Sherman, plenty of architecture and artifacts exist to show off the city's rich history. Browse the beautifully restored homes of Margaret Mitchell, Joel Chandler Harris (of Uncle Remus fame), and Alonzo Herndon, Atlanta's first black millionaire. Relax in the city's manicured parks, get in a daily run, and find even more evidence of local history in Piedmont Park's plaques and displays. If horticulture appeals to you, the Botanical Garden boasts indoor and outdoor specimens and offers plenty of creative fodder for budding gardeners. If kids are along for the ride, spend some time at Zoo Atlanta, whose exotic animals and youth-oriented activities are sure to please. And if pure and unadulterated fun is on the agenda, no one does it better than Six Flags, which is only a few miles from town and a certain source of pleasure.
