MIDTOWN.   This three-story Tudor Revival mansion was the home of Margaret Mitchell from 1925 to 1932, and it was here that she wrote Gone With the Wind, still one of the world's most beloved books. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. See Scarlett's portrait and the famous doorway from Tara. MARTA: Midtown   (© 10Best)

I am a HUGE fan of Gone With the Wind, and I learned SO much about my favorite book, movie, and the author who started it all. The tour guide was AMAZING. She knew everything about not only Margaret Mitchell and the book, but about Atlanta, too. This is a sure bet if you're interested in Gone With the Wind OR Atlanta history. It was amazing to hear all Margaret did. I was VERY interested to learn she funded scholarships for African-American men to attend the medical school at Morehouse. Who knew?
