MIDTOWN. A night scene trifecta in the truest sense, this multi-level building houses one of the trendiest nightclubs in Atlanta, a suave lava-surfaced bar and a cozy South Beach-style lounge area. The dance floor, located on the lower level, vibrates to the latest house and industrial beats. Between songs, the young and the beautiful alike line up at the crescent-shaped lava bar to sample what many believe are Midtown's best martinis. Meanwhile, the tony lounge, highlighted by indigo and saffron accents, entices patrons to relax amid velvet couches and a warm fireplace. Lava's 20-something scene often spills onto its candlelit patio, shared with sister nightspot Cosmo.

WESTSIDE. This club is, indeed, a compound. Fashioned from a series of separate structures and linked by a minimalist courtyard that surrounds a reflecting pool, the fabulous place is comprised of several venues. MB1, the lounge, lets guests relax amid artwork and DJ-spun tunes. Ride is the expansive dance club, whose music and visuals envelop patrons in a sensory interplay of light and sound. Rail, finally, hosts special events as they arise. Throughout the week, different nights focus on dance, international, and Asian music.

PONCEY-HIGHLAND. The subterranean MJQ Concourse pulsates with everything from punk and industrial rock to house and R&B. A wide mix of people meet here on weekend nights, including Tech students, young professionals and die-hard clubbers, many dressed in the hippest Euro-wear. Add to the mix a curious, Japanese-influenced decor, and you've got all the right ingredients for a proper cosmopolitan dance club. When you need a break from "moving to the groove," make your way to the lounge area where you'll find a couple of comfy sofas and a skilled bartender with plenty of cocktails to go around.

MIDTOWN. In the 1920s, this exquisite structure was an opera house for the Atlanta Women's Club. Today, its dramatic architecture and historical vibe give the space a brand of cool all its own and make it one of the primo event locations in town. On Friday and Saturday nights, the two-level Main Lounge becomes an exclusive dance club that features amazing sound and light shows, top-flight DJs, pulse-pounding music and, of course, plenty of sharply-attired eye candy. Helpful hints if you go: dress to impress (of course!), try your best to get on the guest list, and look for the entrance on Crescent Avenue.

DOWNTOWN. Formerly that bastion of cool known as Karma, The Mark does the former a few shakes better with its über-hip decor reminiscent of a post-mod movie set and its world-famous DJs attracting some of Atlanta's most beautiful 20- and 30-somethings. The surreal scene is marked by eerie lighting, luxe lounge areas, weathered brick walls, contemporary artwork and TV monitors hung at strange angles – a combined effect that would probably leave Dali himself in awe. If Atlanta needed a lounge to attract trendsetters, this sleek hotel-style bar has definitely hit the "mark."

BUCKHEAD. This old standby has been one of the premier nightspots for the Swing and Big Band crowd for more than 20 years. As the night wears on, Big Band sounds turn to disco fever as the singles and couples keep dancing. An expanded bar food menu and popular daily food specials are crowd favorites. There's an all-day breakfast menu, too.

BUCKHEAD. Not exactly what its name suggests, the trendy Hole in the Wall is a favorite of Buckhead's young and hip crowd, who shake their stuff to the best 70s and 80s grooves until the wee hours. The expansive dance floor, flanked by funky hand-painted murals and hypnotic disco lights, gets packed on the weekends, so show up early to stake your claim. The Hole's kitchen serves up tasty bar food and, if you need to catch your breath, the lounge area offers several comfy leather couches.

BUCKHEAD. Located along Buckhead's über cool East Andrews corridor, Aiko plays the duality card with a bit of contemporary panache. In the early evening, the fashionably-clad clientele tends to focus on the fare – artistically presented maki, nigiri and sashimi, to be exact. Later in the evening, the bartenders and DJs hold sway, mixing fabuolus martinis and pulse-pounding beats, respectively. Sexy, seductive and exceedingly modern, the space is sure to ensnare even the snobbiest of scenesters.

BUCKHEAD. It started life as a cigar bar, but Havana Club now includes Latin dancing in its repertoire and serves up some pretty mean drinks as well. The upscale venue is a constant favorite with those who enjoy a little activity with their lounging and drinking. Rhythmic music keeps the energy at an elevated level, and whether DJs spin during the week or bands play on the weekends, you can be certain of a charged, exciting atmosphere. Cigars are available, of course, and you'll also find tasty, refreshing cocktails. Plus, if Havana's patrons have you longing to shake your own booty, the club offers lessons for novices.

The mid-century modern decor is an apt environment for patrons who cultivate a retro attitude of their own. Martinis are de rigeur, although a variety of cocktails is available, including your favorite. On the lower floor, you'll find DJs offering dance music to groups of young professionals, who gyrate their way into the night. An outdoor patio and three bars ensure that you're never at a loss for leisure pursuits, and comfortable furniture inside provides the opportunity to kick back and relax. If you get hungry, there's gourmet pizza to eat. Great atmosphere in a turn-of-the-century home.
