DOWNTOWN. "Moored" north of Centennial Olympic Park, a massive glass and steel prow beckons modern explorers to discover the wonders that lie deep within the Georgia Aquarium, one of the largest and most architecturally stunning facilities of its kind. Exotic batfish, sea goblins and bowmouth guitarfish are among 100,000 fish and marine animals patrolling the 8-plus million gallons of the deep water exhibit, which is home to the state's most prodigious residents – whale sharks Alice, Trixie, Taroko, and Yushan (Ralph and Norton passed in 2007). A reality thanks to the generosity of Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus, the Georgia Aquarium has strong rescue, rehabilitation and education emphases and serves as one of the state's top special event venues. MARTA: CNN Center or Peachtree Center

BUCKHEAD. This five-star favorite offers a flavorful fusion of French, Asian and Mediterranean cuisines in an elegant, luxurious setting. The menu, served by an impeccable waitstaff, offers such mind-blowing items as citrus-cured Maine cod and Little Neck clams with fennel broth, Four Story Hill Farm veal loin with wilted spinach, and sweetbread kebob with tomato confit. The wine list is just as exotic, featuring selections from around the world. Finish your meal with an unbelievable warm chocolate cake with pistachio cream or perhaps another of their sinful treats. BUCKHEAD. Chops, a swanky local favorite, is often frequented by power brokers and features hushed tones and a well-stocked display case. Steaks take center stage, of course, and you can choose from a range of cuts and sizes. Side dishes are also noteworthy, going beyond run-of-the-mill salads and baked potatoes to include creamed spinach and walnut-raisin bread. If you want something lighter, opt for the Lobster Bar downstairs, which offers the featured crustacean along with yellow fin tuna, almond-crusted swordfish and grilled sea scallops. The wine list is excellent.

WESTSIDE. This elegant restaurant is considered one of Atlanta's – perhaps even the South's – finest and is a superb setting for romantic, intimate dinners, special occasions and celebrations. The innovative menu changes daily. Begin with gourmet specialties such as steak tartare with shallots and capers, or foie gras terrine with brioche toast and onion jam. Selecting a main dish poses an even tougher question: will it be wood-grilled breast of squab with potato gratin, or braised red snapper with caramelized turnips? Going wrong is just short of impossible at Bacchanalia.

MIDTOWN. A night scene trifecta in the truest sense, this multi-level building houses one of the trendiest nightclubs in Atlanta, a suave lava-surfaced bar and a cozy South Beach-style lounge area. The dance floor, located on the lower level, vibrates to the latest house and industrial beats. Between songs, the young and the beautiful alike line up at the crescent-shaped lava bar to sample what many believe are Midtown's best martinis. Meanwhile, the tony lounge, highlighted by indigo and saffron accents, entices patrons to relax amid velvet couches and a warm fireplace. Lava's 20-something scene often spills onto its candlelit patio, shared with sister nightspot Cosmo.

DOWNTOWN. The new World of Coca-Cola shares the story of the legendary American beverage via state-of-the-art interactive exhibits, a 4-D multi-sensory movie and even a working bottling line. Fortunately, the tasting experience allows visitors to sample some 70 different Coca-Cola products from all over the world.

BUCKHEAD. One of Atlanta's favorite shopping destinations, this upscale mall boasts wide, well-lit corridors and some of the nation's most well-known retailers. In fact, more than 250 businesses occupy the mall, ensuring that you'll never go away empty-handed. Among the anchors are Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's and Macy's. Other familiar tenants include Brooks Brothers, Polo by Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor, Burberry, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, and Kate Spade. A food court, full-service restaurants, and a movie theater are available as well.

MIDTOWN. Sleek furnishings of chrome, glass and wood ably temper the poured concrete shell of this hip lounge. Its centerpiece, a white onyx bar, takes on the colors of changing light, and patrons cozy up to it for Halo's fabulous cocktails. During the week, the scene takes on a low-key vibe, and relaxing with friends is a standard pastime. On weekends, though, the pace picks up, DJs spin the latest tunes, and folks revel in the heightened activity. Drinks are top quality, food is served from 5pm till 10pm, and just so you know, the entrance to the lounge is located on Sixth Street, not Peachtree.
