DOWNTOWN.   Located near the Georgia State campus, Thelma's is as down-home, family-friendly a place as you'll find Downtown. Indeed, Southern-style comfort food steals the show at this unassuming dining room, where the kitchen serves up heaping, unforgettable portions of everything from fried chicken and farm-raised catfish to mac-n-cheese and sweet-potato pie. As for the clientele, expect an eclectic mix of neighborhood regulars, stray students in need of home-cooking and folks from nearby corporate HQs – yes, even tie-wearing business execs crowd around the tables from time to time.   (© 10Best)

Great food, good value.
My wife and I enjoyed lunch at Thelma's kitchen on my birthday. She had fried chicken, sweet potatoes and summer squash with cornbread. I had ribs (3 healthy sized pieces), sweet potatoes, and collard greens with a piece of jalapeño cornbread. The price with waters was around $18 for both of us. The sweet potatoes were remarkably good, sweet, but very good. The ribs had a rich smoky sauce. We were very satisfied with the portions. Had I not seen a rating and an address from this website we never would have gone. It is a very humble building on a one way strip right off 75/85. But what the building and the area around lacked in appeal, the food made up for. When looking for good food we have always said go where the locals, the business people, and especially the police officers eat. We saw all of the above. Enjoy!
