BUCKHEAD. Chops, a swanky local favorite, is often frequented by power brokers and features hushed tones and a well-stocked display case. Steaks take center stage, of course, and you can choose from a range of cuts and sizes. Side dishes are also noteworthy, going beyond run-of-the-mill salads and baked potatoes to include creamed spinach and walnut-raisin bread. If you want something lighter, opt for the Lobster Bar downstairs, which offers the featured crustacean along with yellow fin tuna, almond-crusted swordfish and grilled sea scallops. The wine list is excellent.

BUCKHEAD. The extensive menu at this casual Southern restaurant features only the freshest seafood. Although the menu changes daily, typical entrees include seafood brochette with orzo, potato-crusted cod, broiled fresh-water lobster tails, and cashew swordfish. The enormous copper fish out front is a popular Buckhead landmark, and the bustling bar is a fun place to wait for a table. Reservations recommended.

SMYRNA. Views of the Chattahoochee provide immediate indication that seafood is king at this, the original Ray's. A rustic, upscale setting of wood, stone, and glass surrounds diners as they delve into a menu of always-fresh fin- and shellfish. Oysters Rockefeller or the raw bar's offerings let you ease into grilled fish or something more elaborate, like sun corn-crusted trout, ginger tuna, blackened mahi, or Australian lobster tail. Steaks, pork, and chicken can also be had. Live music is available weekly, and Sunday brunch is a well-attended event that locals eagerly anticipate.

BUCKHEAD. Some restaurants are known for excellent steak, and some are known for terrific seafood, but few earn a fantastic reputation for both. Prime, located in Lenox Square Mall, is the exception to that rule. Sophisticated and upscale, the dining room is adorned with touches of marble, a setting that befits the selection of great steaks. If beef doesn't prove tempting, look to live Maine lobster, wood-grilled salmon or soy-marinated sea bass. You'll also find deep-fried lobster tail, seared tuna and everything from lamb to pork and rotisserie duck. Enjoy them all, but don't forget to sample a martini or a vintage from their extensive wine list. Sushi available.

DOWNTOWN. Venerable Ray's on the River has established an outpost in the city, and it's a beautiful place, complete with an aquarium, an onyx bar, tiled walls and ambient lighting. Seafood is delivered several times daily, and everything is impeccably fresh. Terrific oysters from the raw bar are a briny treat, and the sushi bar offers favorite rolls fashioned to your specs. Much of the fish is simply grilled, but there's also grouper with a horseradish crust, ginger-glazed yellow fin tuna, lump crab cakes, and a wonderful broiled seafood platter. Pork, chicken and steak satisfy landlubbers who can't give up their comfort zones.

DOWNTOWN. Comfortable and clubby, McCormick and Schmick's has built a solid reputation on fish and shellfish drawn from local and Pacific waters. Start with oysters on the half shell or a bowl of oyster stew, and then consider Dungeness crab, parmesan-crusted flounder, seared yellowfin tuna, or sauteed sea scallops. Pastas and steaks carve out a welcome if you're not in a seafood sort of mood. Popular with business folks, especially at lunch, the restaurant also features a great bar and a sociable happy hour.

DUNWOODY. At first glance, this seafooder certainly makes a strong splash, from the stunning, cobalt-blue aquarium to Leigh Smith Catherall's fantasical artwork. Dive deeper, and you'll find Goldfish can't be accused of being "all style, no sustenance." Start with an appetizer – hot ones like crab cakes or catfish served with ponzu sauce, or a colder one like peel & eat shrimp or oysters. From there, the menu takes several routes, each of them posing tempting endeavors: Charleston-style shrimp & grits, pan-roasted haddock with sweet corn and scallion chowder, and parmesan-seared skate wing.

AIRPORT AREA. Loud, lively and rustic, this casual eatery near the airport has nurtured quite a loyal following with its fun ambience and simple, fantastic seafood. Tuck into fresh clams or oysters to start (you can be a purist and order them raw or try them fried or steamed), and then try their crab cakes, a chunky gumbo or chowder, or even sweet, delicate crab. Steaks are also available, along with burgers, salads and other light fare. The bar is well-equipped to serve your favorite poison, and casual good times are always the name of the game.

DUNWOODY. Warm and masculine, McKendrick's recalls the classic big city steakhouse thanks to a clubby interior featuring stained oak walls, comfortable leather seats, Art Deco lighting and cool, jazzy background music. This popular steakhouse delivers fabulous appetizers, enormous steaks, tender chops and succulent seafood. Start with tomato basil bisque, crisp tempura lobster or oysters Rockefeller. Then enjoy eye-popping entrees like seared duck steak with stir-fried Napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms and citrus ginger sauce, or perhaps a mammoth 24-oz. porterhouse. The bar scene is favored by business types.
