BUCKHEAD. Highbrow wheeling and dealing is always on the slate at this long-lived Buckhead steakhouse, which is characterized by an outstanding menu and a decor that pays homage to Atlanta's rich history. Favorite entrees include petit filet mignon, a perfectly cooked bone-in rib-eye and a deliciously mammoth 20-ounce New York strip. Couple your meal with a side dish such as roasted garlic mashed potatoes or fried onion rings – you'll easily see why Bone's enjoys such revered status. Superb service, an excellent wine list and a large, cigar-friendly bar round out its impressive offerings.

AIRPORT AREA. Loud, lively and rustic, this casual eatery near the airport has nurtured quite a loyal following with its fun ambience and simple, fantastic seafood. Tuck into fresh clams or oysters to start (you can be a purist and order them raw or try them fried or steamed), and then try their crab cakes, a chunky gumbo or chowder, or even sweet, delicate crab. Steaks are also available, along with burgers, salads and other light fare. The bar is well-equipped to serve your favorite poison, and casual good times are always the name of the game.

BUCKHEAD. This beloved chain of steakhouses bills itself as the "Home of Serious Steaks," and one visit will tell you that's more than a marketing slogan. Steaks are known for their sizzle, achieved by a dollop of butter dropped on hot-from-the-oven cuts; your choice will still be sputtering when it's placed in front of you. Ruth's Chris isn't intended for calorie-counters; it is a true steak lover's haven. The establishment also takes pride in its great service, extensive wine list and comfortable elegance.

DECATUR. This casual favorite, located in a refurbished service station, features great wines and an array of gourmet-caliber plates that pay homage to the traditional Southern kitchen: braised beef short ribs with whipped rutabagas and cabbage, salmon croquettes with stone-ground grits and wild mushroom stew, and grilled Niman Ranch pork chops with mac-n-cheese. Their spectacular chocolate cake takes the standard dessert to new heights. Be sure to browse the on-site craft and wine shops. Star-watchers note: Watershed is co-owned by Indigo Girl Emily Saliers.

BUCKHEAD. Soak up the mountain-lodge ambience, complete with roaring fireplace and log cabin decor, before ordering fine regional American cuisine. Long-time Southern favorites are given innovative twists with dishes focusing on game, seafood and chops. Try grilled, apple-stuffed trout in honey-pecan sauce for a real treat. Vegetables are organic and consistently delicious, and fresh sourdough bread will almost make you forget all about your entree ... almost.

MIDTOWN. This popular restaurant revels in kitsch – yes, the lunch boxes, board games and Barbie-related collectibles are authentic – and serves delicious Southern fare. How does a Sunday brunch of salmon croquettes, Cajun-fried okra and fried green tomatoes sound? Other down-home favorites include mac-n-cheese fritters, BBQ shrimp served over creamy grits, turkey meatloaf and buttermilk fried chicken. Of course, one of their spicy Bloody Marys is a must. And, oh yes, be sure to save room for a slice of carrot cake ... theirs may just be the best in town. Note: call ahead seating only.

MIDTOWN. Get caught up in the Vortex, and you'll find Atlanta's best burger. More than kid's fast food, these burgers are thick, juicy patties crowned with a range of exotic toppings. Accompany one with a Laughing Skull beer, or try a single-malt scotch from their collection of more than 80 brands. The place also offers veggie lovers a range of meat-free burgers that are just as tasty as the meat counterparts. An upbeat vibe and colorful dining room work together to make this an exhilarating midday experience. Be forewarned, however, that Vortex is self-described as "NOT politically correct." It's also a bar, and they do restrict underage patrons after 7pm.

VIRGINIA HIGHLAND. Alon's lunches are great for one main reason: the sublime, fresh-baked bread. Challah, Country French, rye and croissants are done to perfection. Top these with creative mixtures of fresh vegetables, flavorful cheeses and hearty meats, and you have a sandwich that's nothing short of unforgettable. If you love to browse tray after tray of bakery-fresh desserts – and who doesn't! – then don't skip theirs. From tender scones to some of the most addictive cookies in Atlanta, you'll find it all here. Try a tangy lemon square or a big piece of raspberry white-chocolate cheesecake, and don't forget a fragrant cup of coffee to go with your selection. Wine is not served, but you may buy a bottle in the store to take home.

GRANT PARK. Don't dismiss Daddy D'z based on its appearance – as with any BBQ joint worth its sauce, this one isn't dressed to impress, and they don't hang their hats on any false pretense, In fact, most just leave their hats right on their heads where they belong! And, if you're looking for pedigree, publications from all over the country have heaped praise and awards on the place for its tender, flavorful smoked spare ribs. In addition to everyday ditties like pulled pork, chicken, turkey and bodacious Brunswick stew, Daddy D'z delivers terrific live blues on Friday and Saturday nights.
