MIDTOWN. Sleek furnishings of chrome, glass and wood ably temper the poured concrete shell of this hip lounge. Its centerpiece, a white onyx bar, takes on the colors of changing light, and patrons cozy up to it for Halo's fabulous cocktails. During the week, the scene takes on a low-key vibe, and relaxing with friends is a standard pastime. On weekends, though, the pace picks up, DJs spin the latest tunes, and folks revel in the heightened activity. Drinks are top quality, food is served from 5pm till 10pm, and just so you know, the entrance to the lounge is located on Sixth Street, not Peachtree.

BUCKHEAD. This laid-back venue, with its relaxed sophistication and comfortable furnishings, attracts a regular clientele, who come for delicious martinis and smooth jazz music. A professional crowd frequents the intimate place, stopping in after work or gathering in the evening. Lounging on upholstered sofas, nursing cold drinks, they simply soak in the ambience and the sweet smokiness of cigars. Live piano music serenades visitors, and you'll also find champagne and – of course – caviar.

MIDTOWN. A cool vibe runs throughout this swanky lounge, part of which is swathed in leopard prints as the name promises. The mid-century modern decor is an apt environment for patrons who cultivate a retro attitude of their own. Martinis are de rigeur, although a variety of cocktails is available, including your favorite. On the lower floor, you'll find DJs offering dance music to groups of young professionals, who gyrate their way into the night. An outdoor patio and three bars ensure that you're never at a loss for leisure pursuits, and comfortable furniture inside provides the opportunity to kick back and relax. If you get hungry, there's gourmet pizza to eat. Great atmosphere in a turn-of-the-century home.

MIDTOWN. A great place to gather for drinks or a bite before catching a show at the Fox, Bazzaar is modeled after the stylish restaurant-lounges found in Europe. Large picture windows along the front wall afford awesome views of Midtown, and the space itself is smartly appointed with velvet-covered furniture, white drapes, high ceilings, and a loft dining area with various intimate nooks and crannies. As the evening wears on, local DJs step in and add their own brand of cool to the "hipper than thou" scene.

MIDTOWN. Ultra-hip, seductive, sophisticated – all of these are apt adjectives for this Midtown lounge, where the decor is very nearly as sexy as the clientele. Lighting around the base of the bar washes the space in an eerie green hue, and the open design sports exposed ducts, smooth hardwood floors, low-slung leather furniture, slender bistro tables and weathered rock walls. Music, too, plays an important role at Sutra, and the house DJs spin everything from reggae and tone to salsa and bachata. As to the attire: Dress to impress if you hope to get past the door.

MIDTOWN. High-ceilinged and open, this lounge stays busy constantly, packed with attractive, young professionals who come to meet and greet. Weekends are especially crowded, although the place has a more comfortable capacity during the week. And if you can make it to the patio, you'll enjoy the chance for a breath of fresh air and a little more elbowroom. Drinks are well prepared, especially the signature cosmopolitan, and a selection of appetizers (including calamari, shrimp, hummus, and eggrolls) provides added energy. Depending on the night, the lounge offers live music or DJ-spun tunes. Plus, Friday happy hour is a great way to kick off the weekend.

EAST ATLANTA. Eminently stylish, this lounge (named for the Ayn Rand novel) pulls in a mix of patrons so that, refreshingly, no one cliquish crowd is represented. The brilliant red walls of the upstairs venue surround patrons with hip ambience, just as the movies and videos projected onto a large screen showcase the best in cinema and music. DJs spin top music throughout the week, perfectly in tune with the crowd, many of whom work in creative fields. The large bar downstairs can set you up with a host of beverages, including good selections of wine and vodka. You'll also find a menu of appetizers if you find yourself with the munchies. Wine tastings and film festivals are scheduled regularly.

MIDTOWN. Slate floors, pendant lights, and dark wood square tables fill the interior of this sophisticated space, located in TWELVE Hotel. Grab a barstool in front of the open kitchen and watch the chef craft dishes such as sage-roasted quail, beef short rib, wood oven pizzas and wood-grilled Mediterranean daurade. In addition to being a superb dining experience, the Lobby has also emerged as Atlantic Station's hippest locale for post-IKEA cocktails.

BUCKHEAD. It started life as a cigar bar, but Havana Club now includes Latin dancing in its repertoire and serves up some pretty mean drinks as well. The upscale venue is a constant favorite with those who enjoy a little activity with their lounging and drinking. Rhythmic music keeps the energy at an elevated level, and whether DJs spin during the week or bands play on the weekends, you can be certain of a charged, exciting atmosphere. Cigars are available, of course, and you'll also find tasty, refreshing cocktails. Plus, if Havana's patrons have you longing to shake your own booty, the club offers lessons for novices.
