MIDTOWN. Fine dining finds its stride in this gorgeous restaurant whose interior oozes refinement. Ivory, gold and red tones set the stage, and an exhibition kitchen provides an unmistakable intimacy to the experience. The Thai cuisine beautifully mixes presentation and flavor, and curries are a favorite whether they're green, Massaman or another delectable choice. Seafood figures prominently in the menu, and whole sizzling snapper finds perennial favor. Other options include dumplings, coconut shrimp soup and duck breast with green mango salad.

MIDTOWN. Nam's sensual interior mixes fresh flowers, candlelight and charcoal drawings as a seductive backdrop to the menu's vibrant cuisine. The family-run establishment has cultivated quite a loyal following thanks to its beautiful, well-balanced dishes. Many of the items may be unfamiliar, but the staff is happy to offer suggestions such as lotus root salad, steamed sea bass in a banana leaf parcel and "shaking" Kobe beef. Nam's nuoc cham sauce also elicits praise for the additional zest it adds to many a dish. A small patio is available when the weather's nice.

MIDTOWN. Family-run and managed, this Thai establishment is among the city's best. Its soothing decor is an apt backdrop for spectacular cuisine that provides a true sense of what Thai fare should be. Fragrant spices and fresh vegetables conspire in dishes that create complex, but not overpowering, flavors. Try the curried fish cakes for a sampling of the kitchen's skill; lobster tail and spicy lamb are also fantastic options. Their beef dishes score high points as well, as do the curries, which are a Thai specialty.

MIDTOWN. First off, this sushi bar's initials stand for "Magic Fingers," which is the accomplished sushi chef's nickname. Second, sushi is all the restaurant serves. But, oh, what sushi it is, presented in a stylish place of pale woods and rhythmic music. Perfectly composed morsels are beautiful, fashioned from premium seafood, and are exemplary models of the genre. Fresh wasabi, terrific sakes, and knowledgeable servers up the ante on quality. Crafting the sushi does take time, so be prepared for some anticipation.

BUCKHEAD. Under the masterful tutelage of chef Roy Yamaguchi, this restaurant's menu is a skillful fusion of European and Asian cuisines. Here, Roy's standards are joined by dishes created by the resident chef, and the place has a reputation for lively ambience, attentive service, and incredible food. A devotion to impeccably fresh ingredients and a penchant for artistic presentation characterizes the menu, whose temptations include steamed Hawaiian onaga, tri-peppercorn-crusted ahi, and ginger-steamed Chinese chicken. There's also steak, lamb, pasta, pork, and duck. Nightly specials make an appearance too, and the signature chocolate soufflé is absolutely sinful.

DOWNTOWN. Constantly busy with downtown professionals and folks staying at nearby hotels, Hsu's boasts much more than a convenient location. Its husband-and-wife team capitalize on their Asian heritage and love of food, and their passion shows in the celebrated cuisine. Szechuan and Hunan dishes are a specialty, and you'll find everything from Peking duck served in three courses to walnut shrimp, wok-charred beef medallions, and sea scallops in black pepper sauce. Another favorite is Spicy Anna's Seafood Noodle Soup.

BUCKHEAD. At this elegant, candlelit Chinese restaurant and piano bar, the talented maitre d' often tickles the ivories while you dine. The lengthy menu is much superior to typical American Chinese restaurants, and the excellent cuisine and soothing ambiance attract a large clientele of local regulars. Any dish served with the crispy dry spinach is certain to be a hit. Other delicious options include whole butterfly snapper, duck ravioli, and lamb in pepper sauce.

DECATUR. Quietly elegant, this Asian fusion restaurant surrounds guests with soft lighting, wispy curtains, and exposed brick. It's a melange of effects in perfect keeping with the cuisine. Fresh, light flavors are standard, and a touch of spice is not unknown to the kitchen. Roasted duck breast is dressed with soy syrup and Thai basil puree, and crispy coconut prawns get a kick from a fragrant curry sauce. Seafood is prevalent, although you'll find chicken, squab, pork, lamb, and rabbit available as well. Delicious and reasonably priced.

SANDY SPRINGS. Although the decor and location aren't as chi chi as you'll find at some restaurants, the food more than compensates. Cantonese cuisine is the specialty, and seafood is a particular strength. Along with shrimp and lobster, you'll find salt and pepper squid, Peking duck (without advance notice), soft-shell crabs, and whole grouper in an aromatic sauce. Spicing is judicious and doesn't obscure the flavor of the foods. Plus, vegetarian options are available, and even the soups are incredible, much more interesting than the usual concoctions you find at other Asian restaurants.

MIDTOWN. Transformed from a Victorian home, this gorgeous restaurant is a study in style and creativity. Texture and pattern invigorate the beautiful architecture, and patrons are, without exception, mesmerized by the interior. The cuisine, too, is innovative, grounded in Mandarin, Hunan, and Szechuan fare but open to interpretation. Specialties include crispy Mu Lan snapper with aged vinegar sauce, black pepper prawns and scallops, and braised chicken Taiwanese with ginger-garlic sauce. Vegetarian and spa cuisine entrees are available as well.
