BUCKHEAD. This five-star favorite offers a flavorful fusion of French, Asian and Mediterranean cuisines in an elegant, luxurious setting. The menu, served by an impeccable waitstaff, offers such mind-blowing items as citrus-cured Maine cod and Little Neck clams with fennel broth, Four Story Hill Farm veal loin with wilted spinach, and sweetbread kebob with tomato confit. The wine list is just as exotic, featuring selections from around the world. Finish your meal with an unbelievable warm chocolate cake with pistachio cream or perhaps another of their sinful treats. WESTSIDE. This elegant restaurant is considered one of Atlanta's – perhaps even the South's – finest and is a superb setting for romantic, intimate dinners, special occasions and celebrations. The innovative menu changes daily. Begin with gourmet specialties such as steak tartare with shallots and capers, or foie gras terrine with brioche toast and onion jam. Selecting a main dish poses an even tougher question: will it be wood-grilled breast of squab with potato gratin, or braised red snapper with caramelized turnips? Going wrong is just short of impossible at Bacchanalia.

BUCKHEAD. Chops, a swanky local favorite, is often frequented by power brokers and features hushed tones and a well-stocked display case. Steaks take center stage, of course, and you can choose from a range of cuts and sizes. Side dishes are also noteworthy, going beyond run-of-the-mill salads and baked potatoes to include creamed spinach and walnut-raisin bread. If you want something lighter, opt for the Lobster Bar downstairs, which offers the featured crustacean along with yellow fin tuna, almond-crusted swordfish and grilled sea scallops. The wine list is excellent.

INMAN PARK. Since opening this sleek eatery, owner-chef Kevin Rathbun has fielded countless interview requests from rags all around the US. The restaurant's post-industrial decor provides the perfect backdrop for Rathbun's singularly innovative New American fare. Dazzling are "Big Plates" (tarragon-roasted chicken) and "Second Mortgage Plates" (Maine lobster and roasted green-chile soft tacos). Despite all the press and hoopla, the place maintains a neighborhood feel, and the patio dining area welcomes nightly walk-in traffic. To land a table inside, however, reservations are a must.

MIDTOWN. Fine dining finds its stride in this gorgeous restaurant whose interior oozes refinement. Ivory, gold and red tones set the stage, and an exhibition kitchen provides an unmistakable intimacy to the experience. The Thai cuisine beautifully mixes presentation and flavor, and curries are a favorite whether they're green, Massaman or another delectable choice. Seafood figures prominently in the menu, and whole sizzling snapper finds perennial favor. Other options include dumplings, coconut shrimp soup and duck breast with green mango salad.

BUCKHEAD. Owner-chef Gerry Klaskala earned his culinary stripes at the celebrated Hedgerose, known for its traditional ambiance and cuisine. These days his Aria, which has been receiving rave reviews since its 2000 debut, has become a fixture on the Buckhead dining scene thanks to its creative "slow food" and sleek atmosphere. Menu highlights include Georgia mountain trout with crab smashed potatoes and haricots vert, and zinfandel braised beef short ribs with celery whipped potatoes and sugar snap peas. Kudos go to the pastry chef whose desserts are fittingly decadent and artfully presented.

BUCKHEAD. The culinary baby of owner-chef Joël Antunes, this contemporary Buckhead restaurant is an exciting foray into French cuisine with an Asian tinge, and it's garnered both praise and delight. The chic surroundings – complete with expansive windows, leather banquettes and a vibrant red tile wall separating the kitchen from the dining area – are luxe but not overpowering. The rich, seductive menu features a wonderful bouillabaisse, veal sweetbreads, beef short ribs, roast lamb and Alaskan king crab salad. Beautiful desserts and a selection of fine wines are both available. A 42-seat chef's room affords guests a sharp, private setting that is ideal for parties and meetings.

MIDTOWN. Nam's sensual interior mixes fresh flowers, candlelight and charcoal drawings as a seductive backdrop to the menu's vibrant cuisine. The family-run establishment has cultivated quite a loyal following thanks to its beautiful, well-balanced dishes. Many of the items may be unfamiliar, but the staff is happy to offer suggestions such as lotus root salad, steamed sea bass in a banana leaf parcel and "shaking" Kobe beef. Nam's nuoc cham sauce also elicits praise for the additional zest it adds to many a dish. A small patio is available when the weather's nice.

BUCKHEAD. Highbrow wheeling and dealing is always on the slate at this long-lived Buckhead steakhouse, which is characterized by an outstanding menu and a decor that pays homage to Atlanta's rich history. Favorite entrees include petit filet mignon, a perfectly cooked bone-in rib-eye and a deliciously mammoth 20-ounce New York strip. Couple your meal with a side dish such as roasted garlic mashed potatoes or fried onion rings – you'll easily see why Bone's enjoys such revered status. Superb service, an excellent wine list and a large, cigar-friendly bar round out its impressive offerings.
