BUCKHEAD. This five-star favorite offers a flavorful fusion of French, Asian and Mediterranean cuisines in an elegant, luxurious setting. The menu, served by an impeccable waitstaff, offers such mind-blowing items as citrus-cured Maine cod and Little Neck clams with fennel broth, Four Story Hill Farm veal loin with wilted spinach, and sweetbread kebob with tomato confit. The wine list is just as exotic, featuring selections from around the world. Finish your meal with an unbelievable warm chocolate cake with pistachio cream or perhaps another of their sinful treats. BUCKHEAD. The culinary baby of owner-chef Joël Antunes, this contemporary Buckhead restaurant is an exciting foray into French cuisine with an Asian tinge, and it's garnered both praise and delight. The chic surroundings – complete with expansive windows, leather banquettes and a vibrant red tile wall separating the kitchen from the dining area – are luxe but not overpowering. The rich, seductive menu features a wonderful bouillabaisse, veal sweetbreads, beef short ribs, roast lamb and Alaskan king crab salad. Beautiful desserts and a selection of fine wines are both available. A 42-seat chef's room affords guests a sharp, private setting that is ideal for parties and meetings.

DOWNTOWN. This restaurant on the 30th floor of the downtown Hilton Atlanta offers marvelous views of the city skyline and unparalleled elegance. The menu focuses on French cuisine with a few Russian nuances here and there. Indeed, it's been Nikolai's trademark to utilize high-quality, fresh ingredients to create consistently innovative dishes. The upscale environment makes this a perfect choice for business celebrations or special occasion dinners, and the sommelier's hand-chosen selection of wines continues to be among the most impressive in town.

EMORY. This fabulous French-inspired restaurant holds court in Atlanta's warehouse district. The industrial feel of the neighborhood extends to the quirky decor, which includes milk bottles that serve as hanging lights. The menu is top-notch, featuring appetizers of pasta or baby squid, followed by outstanding potato gnocchi with veal sweetbreads, wodd-grilled hangar steak or penne with braised lamb. The desserts, as you might expect, befit such a tantalizing and artistic cuisine.

EMORY. This hotel-affiliated French restaurant does its most brisk business at lunch, thanks to patronage from surrounding offices. After a bite of Le Giverny's delightful cuisine, these folks know they've found something good. Steak frites, a perennial classic, is always a terrific choice, and sautéed rainbow trout with a touch of hazelnut butter satisfies the need for something both light and flavorful. Pork tenderloin, merlot-braised lamb shank, and pastas are also delicious – whether you sample them day or night.

MIDTOWN. The neighborhood surrounding Ansley Park doesn't want for lack of charm, and folks there surely thank their lucky stars that one of their neighbors just happens to be this romantic French number. Located in an old, restored home, Atmosphère serves up a casual, understated attitude befitting its bistro-inspired inspired setting. The cuisine, it must be noted offers well-conceived takes on French classics like steamed mussels mariniere, roasted duck confit with dauphinois gratin, and raviolis niçoise with beef stew and red wine reduction. NB Live music on Thursday nights.

BUCKHEAD. A distinctly Continental atmosphere pervades at this elegant hotel restaurant, American sibling of the highly regarded Parisian of the same name. The space's design takes its cues from the French brasserie tradition – black and white tiled floor, rich velvet curtains, ornate chandeliers and tables covered in crisp white linens. Seating on the outdoor terrace is a romantic alternative when the weather is pleasant, but if you really want to leave a lasting impression on that somebody special, the exclusive chef's table is the best way to enjoy your mussels, veal with foie gras ravioli, and chocolate parfait.

BUCKHEAD. With its lazy, easy ambience, you'll want to loll about this wonderful bungalow restaurant, preferably on its enviable patio, and enjoy great Provencal-styled cuisine. Begin with classic, white wine-steamed mussels or vodka-cured salmon before sampling the veal porter house with wild rice or, perhaps, thyme-roasted free range chicken with fingerling potatoes. Live jazz enlivens the place on Thursdays and Fridays; Latin tunes on Monday. Service can be slow at times, so plan accordingly. Reasonably priced.

BUCKHEAD. A warm, inviting atmosphere pervades at this Buckhead charmer, where the textured walls have been painted in warm shades of red, orange and yellow, and the art recalls the bistros found along the Côte d'Azur in the south of France. At a place like this, choices aren't easily made, so it's best to start with something like seared scallops or escargots – they may not make deciding between Ravioli Piemontese or Chateaubriand au Portobello any easier, but at least you'll be deliciously underway. Factoring in variables such as quality of cuisine, atmosphere, overall experience and price, few places in Buckhead compete with Soleil.

ROSWELL. Gracing a 19th-century house, this French bistro plies patrons with Gallic cuisine, especially that which recalls southern France. The busy, bustling place appeals to lively patrons, as does the second-story balcony, which is coveted for its great views of historic Roswell. No matter where you sit, the menu pleases. Steak frites, lamb shank, calamari, lobster-studded pasta, and roast duck hint at the options, and you'll also find pâté, escargot, and charcuterie. Plus, live jazz adds to the merriment on weekends.
