BUCKHEAD. Sibling to a restaurant in San Casciano, Italy, Antica Posta has earned its reputation on stellar Tuscan cuisine. The time-tested menu employs premium ingredients, just as patrons count on, and folks know that abundant experience only makes the food better. Much-requested starters include excellent carpaccio, rabbit and arugula salad, and crostini with chicken liver sauce and duck ragù. Gnocchi al pesto also elicits raves, as do grilled rib-eyes, osso buco, and rosemary-marinated rack of lamb. Great wines are a welcome accompaniment, and the panna cotta can't be missed.

VIRGINIA HIGHLAND. An open kitchen and soft lighting add further character to this cozy restaurant, which is often filled to capacity with loyal regulars. Not surprisingly, they can't seem to get enough of the fantastic Italian cuisine, which features white wine-steamed mussels and arugula pear salad as starters. These two dishes perfectly introduce pork saltimbocca, balsamic roasted chicken, and seared Georgia trout with roasted potatoes. Sunday brunch, meanwhile, impresses with vermouth-steamed mussels, pepper encrusted carpaccio, and the frittata of the day. The outdoor patio is popular during warm weather.

MIDTOWN. Named for a commedia dell'arte character and occupying a converted cottage, this established Italian haunt is known for its creative pasta dishes. Buckwheat and semolina noodles are accompanied by a variety of savory sauces – tomato-basil, bolognese and walnut among them. One of the restaurant's treats is apple-sausage ravioli, dressed with a sage-laced brown butter sauce – incredible! You'll also find gnocchi and risotto, along with daily specials that, although good, usually can't compete with the pastas. Prices, thankfully, are quite reasonable, and the place attracts a good crowd of business types throughout the day.

MIDTOWN. Warm, comfortable, and boasting an appealing touch of rusticity, this cafe treats folks to great service and a deliciously satisfying menu. Wood-fired, brick-oven pizzas are the standard, and nearly two dozen of them feature Italian cheeses, herbs, fresh greens and zesty meats. Their thin, crisp crusts are unbeatable, and they go exceptionally well with a simple salad. Pastas are also tempting, and main courses include grilled chicken, fresh fish and veal scaloppini. Full bar. Free parking at Georgian Terrace.

DUNWOODY. The charm of this small, family-owned place doesn't escape Oscar's repeat visitors, who applaud the neighborhood establishment for its talented kitchen and friendly service. Southern Italian in inclination, the menu offers an abundance of seafood and veal dishes, along with chicken, beef, and pastas. Salmon and lobster are especially favored, and veal chops are a classic. Generous portions are commensurate with the prices, and comfort is easily cultivated in the unassuming place.

INMAN PARK. This beloved restaurant is a top choice for classic pasta dishes served with flair. Seasonal favorites include a phenomenal papardelle with wild boar and a perfectly prepared rare tuna pasta. Other options include risotto, saltimbocca, and free-range pheasant with polenta. Desserts are creative and memorable – The chocolate soup? Sinfully good! – and the scope (both in variety and price range) of the wine list is impressive. As for the fashionable setting, think: Black-clad servers, weathered walls and open kitchen. Large storefront windows offer terrific angles of Highland.
