BUCKHEAD. Chops, a swanky local favorite, is often frequented by power brokers and features hushed tones and a well-stocked display case. Steaks take center stage, of course, and you can choose from a range of cuts and sizes. Side dishes are also noteworthy, going beyond run-of-the-mill salads and baked potatoes to include creamed spinach and walnut-raisin bread. If you want something lighter, opt for the Lobster Bar downstairs, which offers the featured crustacean along with yellow fin tuna, almond-crusted swordfish and grilled sea scallops. The wine list is excellent.

DUNWOODY. Warm and masculine, McKendrick's recalls the classic big city steakhouse thanks to a clubby interior featuring stained oak walls, comfortable leather seats, Art Deco lighting and cool, jazzy background music. This popular steakhouse delivers fabulous appetizers, enormous steaks, tender chops and succulent seafood. Start with tomato basil bisque, crisp tempura lobster or oysters Rockefeller. Then enjoy eye-popping entrees like seared duck steak with stir-fried Napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms and citrus ginger sauce, or perhaps a mammoth 24-oz. porterhouse. The bar scene is favored by business types.

BUCKHEAD. Highbrow wheeling and dealing is always on the slate at this long-lived Buckhead steakhouse, which is characterized by an outstanding menu and a decor that pays homage to Atlanta's rich history. Favorite entrees include petit filet mignon, a perfectly cooked bone-in rib-eye and a deliciously mammoth 20-ounce New York strip. Couple your meal with a side dish such as roasted garlic mashed potatoes or fried onion rings – you'll easily see why Bone's enjoys such revered status. Superb service, an excellent wine list and a large, cigar-friendly bar round out its impressive offerings.

BUCKHEAD. Morton's is an upscale chain that serves a lot more than mere American Angus. The decor is masculine; the atmosphere, classy. Yes, praise has been showered upon Morton's, but that doesn't mean this is the type of place that's content to hide behind its sterling rep. Expect to be treated like royalty by the friendly wait staff, who present dinner selections by bringing out a cart of options then giving you the low-down about each choice, from the double-cut filet mignon and 24-ounce porterhouse to the lamb chops and fresh Maine lobster. Needless to say, some things in life are well worth their price tags.

BUCKHEAD. Fabulous city views coupled with incredible steaks make this revered place a perpetual favorite with the expense-account crew. Beef is dry-aged on the premises, so its quality is well-controlled. While the filet, porterhouse, and delmonico are sublime, the sirloin au poivre with Courvoisier cream sauce is absolutely decadent. Other choices include broiled lobster, veal or lamb chops, and seared salmon with mustard sauce. A superb wine list ups the ante, and service at the clubby establishment is as attentive and unobtrusively helpful as you'd expect. There's a busy after-work scene too.

BUCKHEAD. Some restaurants are known for excellent steak, and some are known for terrific seafood, but few earn a fantastic reputation for both. Prime, located in Lenox Square Mall, is the exception to that rule. Sophisticated and upscale, the dining room is adorned with touches of marble, a setting that befits the selection of great steaks. If beef doesn't prove tempting, look to live Maine lobster, wood-grilled salmon or soy-marinated sea bass. You'll also find deep-fried lobster tail, seared tuna and everything from lamb to pork and rotisserie duck. Enjoy them all, but don't forget to sample a martini or a vintage from their extensive wine list. Sushi available.

BUCKHEAD. This beloved chain of steakhouses bills itself as the "Home of Serious Steaks," and one visit will tell you that's more than a marketing slogan. Steaks are known for their sizzle, achieved by a dollop of butter dropped on hot-from-the-oven cuts; your choice will still be sputtering when it's placed in front of you. Ruth's Chris isn't intended for calorie-counters; it is a true steak lover's haven. The establishment also takes pride in its great service, extensive wine list and comfortable elegance.

MARIETTA. Lots of stone and wood give credence to Aspens' name, and Western influences color both decor and cuisine. Beef reigns, and it's top-quality, available in cuts that range from a 7-ounce filet to a 20-ounce rib-eye. Accompany one with a hefty baked potato or maybe white cheddar grits or asparagus. You'll also want to get a good bottle of wine, and Aspens makes it easy with its well-stocked cellar. If red meat doesn't suit, there's pork, chicken, lamb and seafood to be had. For added value, check out the early-bird option (not available Saturdays).

BUCKHEAD. When nothing will satisfy like a premium cut of beef, New York Prime stands poised to accommodate. Aged steaks are perfectly prepared, with slighly charred edges and tender, succulent centers. They're just what they should be, especially when paired with crispy hashbrowns, a well-topped baked potato, or a healthy helping of asparagus. Salmon and chicken satiate "low-cal"-minded diners, although they'll likely lose their last bit of resolve in the face of banana cream pie or another of the luscious desserts.

BUCKHEAD. While dining at the Palm, you may spot a member of the Braves, an award-winning actor or even a noted pop star. Yes, the NYC-based chain has star quality. And though wall after wall of celeb caricatures certainly gives the place a shtick all its own, make no mistake: the USDA Prime steaks are justifiably famous, the jumbo Nova Scotia lobsters are delicious, and the veal Milanese is sublime. Delectable sides include cottage fries, creamed spinach and fried onions. The casual yet refined atmosphere and outstanding service accommodate a relaxed meal or a business meeting with equal aplomb.
