DOWNTOWN. "Moored" north of Centennial Olympic Park, a massive glass and steel prow beckons modern explorers to discover the wonders that lie deep within the Georgia Aquarium, one of the largest and most architecturally stunning facilities of its kind. Exotic batfish, sea goblins and bowmouth guitarfish are among 100,000 fish and marine animals patrolling the 8-plus million gallons of the deep water exhibit, which is home to the state's most prodigious residents – whale sharks Alice, Trixie, Taroko, and Yushan (Ralph and Norton passed in 2007). A reality thanks to the generosity of Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus, the Georgia Aquarium has strong rescue, rehabilitation and education emphases and serves as one of the state's top special event venues. DOWNTOWN. The new World of Coca-Cola shares the story of the legendary American beverage via state-of-the-art interactive exhibits, a 4-D multi-sensory movie and even a working bottling line. While you learn about the company's development, innovative advertising (now part of international culture) and plans for the future, chance are good you'll work up a thirst. Fortunately, the tasting experience allows visitors to sample some 70 different Coca-Cola products from all over the world.

DOWNTOWN. Experience Inside CNN Atlanta and see global news in the making. Go behind the scenes to see how a production comes together, and view television broadcast innovations and the technology that makes global news-gathering a reality. You may catch sight of your favorite TV journalist, and you can even try your hand at broadcasting or volunteer to give the weather in a real studio. Children under 4 are not permitted on the tour. Reservations are recommended since tours tend to sell out hours, sometimes days, in advance. MARTA: CNN Center

SWEET AUBURN. The birth and death of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. resonate at this site. A museum and visitor center detail King's participation in the civil rights' struggle and his peaceful yet effective tactics for educating the populace. The headquarters for the King Center for Non-Violent Change is also located here. In addition, guests can view MLK's birthplace (by park ranger guided tours only) and visit Ebenezer Baptist Church where Dr. King preached and which has been transformed into a museum of his life. MIDTOWN. This popular museum, in its striking contemporary building, features four floors of European and American paintings, decorative items, photography, graphics, and African art. The permanent collection showcases works by renowned artists such as Claude Monet, Andy Warhol, and Georgia O'Keeffe. Touring exhibits are also popular and highlight artists like Norman Rockwell, Edgar Degas, and Andrew Wyeth. NB Friday Jazz is the third Friday of every month, 5pm-10pm. MARTA: Arts Center Station

MIDTOWN. This peaceful oasis is popular with busy Atlantans. Enjoy a picnic and an inspiring skyline view, or try out the wealth of leisure opportunities, including swimming, tennis, cycling, in-line skating, soccer, and football. You can even get a history lesson while you enjoy the great outdoors by reading plaques commemorating Civil War battles and other historic events that took place in the area. DOWNTOWN. This brick-and-limestone ballpark was built for the 1996 Olympic Games and then revamped as Turner Field. The park, home of the Atlanta Braves, boasts modern facilities and plenty of extras, including interactive games, restaurants, a gift shop, and a museum and hall of fame (additional fee) with Hank Aaron memorabilia and other historical exhibits. Near the entry plaza are statues of the most legendary Braves. Turner Field generally opens three hours before game time, providing a great opportunity for folks to catch batting practice or score a few autographs. During the off-season, tours of the park allow visitors to explore the bullpen, press box, dugout, and locker rooms.

MIDTOWN. The urban and non-profit Atlanta Botanical Garden sits adjacent to Piedmont Park in Midtown, just three miles from the city's center, and hosts a wide variety of public and private events. Its 15 acres of old growth woods and 15 acres of cultivated gardens include the two-acre Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Children's Garden, the Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory and the Fuqua Orchid Center. Plants and flowers thrive in both the outdoor and the glass-enclosed gardens all year long, allowing visitors to enjoy a stunning array of colorful blooms and lush foliage no matter the season. Demonstrations and classes are held frequently. The gift shop is an excellent place to pick up something for the nature lover on your list. NB Open on holiday Mondays.

MIDTOWN. The historic Fox Theatre on venerable Peachtree Street has earned a reputation over the years as a wonderful venue for concerts, movies, plays, and performances. Even if you can't catch a show, don't miss the stunning Middle Eastern-style facility, which features dramatic minarets, shining marble, ornate carvings, and decadent decor. EMORY. Founded in 1919, the Carlos is Atlanta's oldest art museum. Its permanent collection features awe-inspiring holdings; many prized items, in fact, were discovered by Emory faculty members. Inside a modern interior designed by Michael Graves, you'll find archeological gems from ancient Europe, South America and sub-Saharan Africa. Must-see collections feature Egyptian art and Bronze Age artifacts. The gallery's Greek and Roman art section includes an exceptional portrait of Emperor Tiberius.
