15. Smitty's Market

LOCKHART.   A basic eatery with long benches, communal seating, and some of the state's best barbecue, Smitty's Market is a relative newcomer to the Lockhart scene, considering that some of its competitors have been serving since the 1930s. However, Smitty's ably proves that age isn't the only gauge of greatness. Its heaping helpings of brisket and sausage have garnered rave reviews from the editors of Texas Monthly, who named Smitty's one of the top five barbecue places in the state.
