10Best's Austin Restaurants
-- Kelly Sigmon, 10Best Travel Editor
The mainstays of Texas cuisine are staples in Austin as well. You'll find any number of thriving Mexican and Tex-Mex joints, tons of steak-and-potatoes places, and more barbecue than you can handle. Excellent Cajun and Italian food is easy to find, as well. But Austin has a few surprises up its sleeve, including a couple of fine French restaurants, and even excellent tapas and sushi. As usual, the locally owned places reign. Try Mirabelle, Aquarelle or Jeffrey's for Continental-French; Uchi or Musashino for sushi; III Forks or Cool River for steak; Fonda Miguel or Chuy's for Tex-Mex or Mexican; Vespaio for Italian; Threadgill's for a quick vegetarian lunch; and Amy's Ice Cream for dessert.
