About 10Best's Austin Restaurants Selections:
The mainstays of Texas cuisine are staples in Austin as well. You'll find any number of thriving Mexican and Tex-Mex joints, tons of steak-and-potatoes places, and more barbecue than you can handle. Excellent Cajun and Italian food is easy to find, as well. But Austin has a few surprises up its sleeve, including a couple of fine French restaurants, and even excellent tapas and sushi. As usual, the locally owned places reign. Try Mirabelle, Aquarelle or Jeffrey's for Continental-French; Uchi or Musashino for sushi; III Forks or Cool River for steak; Fonda Miguel or Chuy's for Tex-Mex or Mexican; Vespaio for Italian; Threadgill's for a quick vegetarian lunch; and Amy's Ice Cream for dessert.

Adorable little fine dining restaurant with spicy perfectly-prepared fresh seafood. There is also beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin and chicken, not to mention a killer meatloaf nothing like your grandmother's for the landlubbers. Candlelit at night and bright with natural light during the day. I love to go here for great service that is not to pretentious and fantastic food every time!

One of the biggest hot spots in Austin is Lake Travis which is also home to my favorite Italian restaurant in Austin. Being from New York I appreciate the fact that Ciola's is family owned and offers authentic old school Italian-American food that I grew up with. In addition to the Italian choices they recently came out with a new menu adding Certified Angus steaks and it is now my favorite place to have steak in Austin as well.

Excellent food and service! This is a supper club that has something different to offer. We sat down to dinner at the Wally Workman Gallery and enjoyed 8 courses of the best meal of my life. Scallops, beef tenderloin, and chocolate tarts... Reserve online in advance, seating is limited to 25 people.

I hesitate to categorize this as a barbecue place - it is sort of an upscale 'back to the basics' homestyle food. Chefs Lou Lambert and Larry McGuire had a previous restaurant several years ago in Austin and really started this trend here. Now there are a number of places that have copied them, but no one does it better. The fact that they located their place in one of the oldest buildings in downtown Austin adds to the experienee of their food. Texas Monthly recently named it one of the top ten new restaurants in Texas this year.

Not fancy and not a huge menu, but for the meat lover it is fantastic. This is one place that friends and family from out of town request by name once they have been there. Great food, service, atmosphere and Texas charm!
