INNER HARBOR. Located in the Harbor Court Hotel, this elegant dining and tea room features fine chandeliers, dainty furnishings and a beautiful view of the harbor. Drawing straight from the waters of the Chesapeake, the kitchen boasts artful presentations of fresh seafood, and other delicacies such as turtle soup and frog legs also appear on the menu. OWINGS MILLS. One of Baltimore's finest eating establishments, this is a masculine, club-like setting for power meetings or special occasions, and the New American cuisine never disappoints. Tournedos of barbecued tuna with fried oysters and country ham, and venison served alongside orange-infused wild rice are two uniquely satisfying and beautifully presented options. The sophisticated dining room and the popular bar are great places to see and be seen, and a counter near the kitchen is perfect for people who are dining alone. Reservations recommended.

SOUTH BALTIMORE. Located in a historic rowhouse, this high-end restaurant offers a casually elegant space in which to enjoy extraordinary New American cuisine. As its name implies, the restaurant boasts an unusual selection of wines, primarily from small domestic vineyards, and the menu lists a suggested wine pairing for each dish. Masterpieces from the kitchen include grilled Moroccan spice-scented lamb shank and roasted red pepper polenta with goat cheese, fennel and feta slaw.

NORTHEAST BALTIMORE. Located in a small house, this bistro-style dining room features textured peach walls, colorful artwork and beautiful hardwood floors. An assortment of interesting starters, from venison salad (flagelot beans, baby beets and mache) to cornmeal encrusted calamari with red pepper relish, hint at the menu's European influences. For dinner the kitchen offers a variety of meat and fishes dishes such as grilled salmon with sautéed chard, spatzle and ramps. Imported beer, wine and liqueurs available.

SPARKS. The first thing you'll notice is the elegance and sophistication this restaurant exudes, from the fine floral drapes to the stone hearth to the vivid red walls of the Crimson Room. Because there are several dining rooms scattered around this country manor-style facility, guests are treated to intimate settings for fabulous, private meals. Indulgent selections include duck with raspberry vinegar glaze and excellent soft shell crab in lemon cashew butter. The expanded wine list provides the perfect accompaniment. Coat and tie suggested. BUTCHER'S HILL. Brick walls with a distressed coat of white paint flank the interior of this restaurant upscale casual digs. The decor's perhaps a bit understated, in comparison to the fabulous menu offering starters like the the crab and avocado napolean and the duck fat french fries and innovative preparations of fish and game. There's the pecan-crusted venison tenderloin with cherry foie gras spaetzle, as well as coriander and pepper-crusted tuna over seaweed salad. Reservations accepted for parties of six or more.

FELLS POINT. In contrast to the casual atmosphere, this kitchen serves delicately prepared, premium fare. The short menu changes from week to week, offering a variety of appetizers from BBQ shrimp and cheese grits to tofu and vegetable spring rolls with seaweed salad. FELLS POINT. Modern American cooking, a huge assortment of beers from around the world, and an intimate, artistic dining room add up to a fun evening of fine dining at this Fell's Point find. Like many restaurants in the area, the seafood is a specialty; look for the meaty, juicy crab cakes and the Chilean sea bass, both regulars on the always-changing menu. Beef and chicken dishes are favorites as well, and desserts like Oreo cookie ice cream pie and Chocolate Oblivion offer plenty of reason to linger. No reservations are accepted at this cozy 12-seater, so plan to arrive early or late.
