Bernard Callebaut has nearly set the industry standard for cooking and baking chocolates, but their bars, truffles and candies are stellar as well. The Belgian chocolatier has several retail locations in North America, where customers can indulge their cravings with a plethora of goodies, including ice cream and chocolate dipped cookies and pretzels. Their signature Ballotin Box, a copper-colored box full of 15-65 chocolates, makes a fine gift (for a loved one or yourself!). Each chocolate is filled with luscious ganache, buttercream, fruits or nuts, or something else equally wonderful.

At this small shop, cows rule. The merchandise features them, the beverages honor them (try an iced "cow"puccino!), and a giant fiberglass model in the entrance pays homage to them. The whole place is bovine-oriented, in fact, including the tee-shirts, greeting cards and gifts. Plus, the entire shop smells like freshly-baked waffle cones, so it's far from bad. To fill these crunchy cones, there's an array of yummy ice creams. Among the flavors you'll find are Wowie Cowie, Cowrispy Crunch, and Chocolate Monster Vanilla Swiss Almond Brownie Explosion. Are you man (or cow) enough to handle one?

For a quick bite and real hometown flavor, Evelyn's is tops. Charming Victorian decor with honey-toned woodwork, dried flowers and teapots welcomes visitors into the small shop. The place is a Banff favorite for picking up a terrific cup of coffee and something sweet. Lunch is also popular, and you'll find soups, sandwiches, muffins, and daily specials on order. To get a real taste of the town, sit and enjoy yourself inside or at the single outside table. However, if you've got places to be or appointments to keep, they're happy to pack something for you to take along. It's often busy, but the lines move fast, especially if you get a coffee to go.

Valbella smoked meats and sausages are a Canadian delicacy. Made right in Canmore, these tasty treats are well worth seeking out. Their eponymous café and shop is a great place to pick up a picnic lunch or the makings of dinner. Sandwiches and deli-style specialties are excellent, of course, and the breads are made on the premises. Sometimes it's nice to just stay in for dinner, and this is the perfect place to pick up something satisfying and quick that's way better than "fast food."
